Country data quality is based on various tests and procedures implemented in the SMRE-algorithm. In sum, they result in a ‘conservative’ judgment on quality of country data statistically. Thus, SMRE estimates for countries classified as reliable can be taken as a highly precise approximation to the actual situation of religious affiliation. Probably reliable country data can be taken as a realistic approximation too, however leaving some room for statistical deviation in percentages especially for smaller categories.
